Please join you neighbors and others to make the village greener, safer, cleaner. At the June and Jly 2007 meetings ther was agreement to target 2 priorities for immediate action:

1. Oppose the proposed Zoning Amendment: Stop the Board of Aldermen from passing a Zoning Amendment which would allow greatly increased densities and high-rise buildings throughout the city and make it much more difficult to plan and control large commercial projects.

Actions: FoNC has initiated a Petition in opposition to the proposed Zoning Amendment. FoNC members have attended public hearings and meetings of the Zoning & Planning Committee of the Bd. of Aldermen which is currently reviewing this proposal, which was put forward by New England Development Corporation (which needs the zoning change in order to over-develop on Route 9) and reported in detail back to the membership. Petitions were forwarded to the committee and signatures continue to be gathered. Numerous emails and calls have been made. Please call your aldermen and let them know you oppose this bill.

2. Trash Reduction in the Village. FoNC is working to clean up the village. Additional trash barrels have been requested from the city. A formal plan is being developed and you are encouraged to email your ideas and suggestions.

Beautification of Newton Centre: Friends of Newton Centre is planning direct action to improve the appearance of our village and the quality of life for all.
